RIDER RUN 8 - TENDER FOOT

‘Run 8 Rider’ is een vijfkoppige formatie met leden uit diverse regio’s in Amerika die zich een aantal jaartjes geleden hebben verenigd rond hun gemeenschappelijk interessegebied, zijnde het spelen van voornamelijk op countrymuziek geïnspireerde Americana. Eén en ander heeft uiteindelijk geleid tot de release van een eerste plaat met twaalf nummers. De songs op dit debuutalbum “Tenderfoot” laten horen dat deze groep zeer moderne elementen in hun toch vrij traditionele muziek probeert te integreren. Dat blijkt ook uit enkele liedjes die ze coveren op deze cd. Zo werd “Whip It” van de Amerikaanse New Wave-band ‘Devo’ in een leuk countrykleedje gestoken. Op bijgaande video kunt u het resultaat van deze opmerkelijke transformatie bewonderen. De andere coversongs zijn even verrassend en opvallend: “I Gotta Feeling” van ‘The Black Eyed Peas’, “Wonderwall” van ‘Oasis’ en “Faith” van George Michael zullen bij de meeste muziekliefhebbers misschien nog wel bekend in de oren klinken, maar “Patience” van ‘Morphine’ en “Ain’t No Rules” van de Britse eightiesformatie ‘Transvision Vamp’ vinden wij toch wel wat minder voor de hand liggende nummers voor een cover op een countryalbum zijn. ‘Run 8 Rider’ heeft gitarist en banjospeler Joel A. Nielsen als frontman en leadzanger, bassist en leadgitarist Billy D., gitarist H. Mark Golden en twee dames in zijn geledingen met Nikky Beach op keyboards en Sarah S.F. Nielsen op drums. De obligate cowboyhoeden mogen natuurlijk niet ontbreken bij deze countryformatie op hun groepsfoto’s en bij hun live optredens. Naast het hierboven vermelde coverwerk zijn er trouwens ook enkele zeer lovenswaardige eigen composities terug te vinden op “Tenderfoot”. Zo houden wij van de uptempo countryrocker “Me I Am A Rider” waar het album mee begint en misschien nog meer van de door viool (Yaiko Miranda) en cello (Linar Katz) knap begeleide ballads “Thanksgiving Day” en “Lucinda”.
